ASDA Kwik Cricket Tournament - May 2008
A bitingly cold wind and a dull cloudy day could not spoil the enjoyment for our eight cricketers from year 6 who were taking part in the ASDA cricket tournament at Boldon Colliery Cricket Club. They played five games in all and despite a slow start which saw them narrowly lose their first two games they recovered superbly to win the next three. Every team member contributed to the cause in a highly competitive competition. Highlight of the day had to be Mohammed Abdo taking three wickets in four balls against West Boldon.
Results:
Marine Park 191 lost to West Boldon 196 (Mohammed 3 wickets for 0 runs conceded; Mahi 2 wickets for 1 run)
Marine Park 175 lost to Bedeburn 189 (Jamal 2 wickets for 1 run)
Marine Park 215 defeated Simonside 197
Marine Park 207 defeated Bedeburn 196 (Jaminur 2 wickets for 3 runs)
Marine Park 213 defeated Dunn Street 208
Chance to Shine
Exciting news for 2008!
Marine Park has been selected as 'A Chance to Shine' school by Durham County Cricket Club and South Shields CC. This means that the children in years 4, 5 & 6 will have regular cricket coaching during their PE time, an after school cricket club, opportunities to play in school matches and attend coaching during the school holidays. More news about this in early 2008.
Durham Pay a Visit
Durham CCC kindly brought in their silverware to show our children during assembly. Not only did Durham win the premier knock out cup competition, they also won the Pro 40 Division 2 title! All the children and some teachers, were desperate to have a touch of the trophies.
