As part of their “Geography of Food” topic, Year 5 were invited to Morrisons to find out about how far food travels before it arrives on the shelves. This is known as “Food Miles”. Ian showed the children around the store and told them how important it is to make it clear to customers where the fresh food has come from. They discovered that some fruit and vegetables were imported from as far away as Kenya, Israel and South Africa. The class collected some items in a basket and Sebi and Zahra scanned the items through the till! Billy and Sian were also shown how to make a pizza (which the children took back to school to eat). The staff made Year 5 feel very welcome and it was the ideal way to finish off their geography topic.
