This year in Nursery we have been so busy and learned so much!
Well, where to begin with all that we have done in Nursery since September? One of the first things we must do is to thank our parents and carers for the support they have given us this year. The REAL Project (Raising Early Achievement in Literacy) is a national initiative to help children get off to a good start in life by working with parents and carers to emphasise just how important they are when it comes to education. As part of the project, we have held events throughout the year. It is wonderful to report that every child had a parent or carer attend each of our Play Dough, Crown and Star and Very Hungry Caterpillar Workshops! Thank you. We also want to express our gratitude for sharing the book their child has chosen with them every week. Familiarity with stories and books is a key factor in children making good progress at school – and, as we all know, you cannot start them off too young!
We continue to spend as much time as we can in our Outside Area because it is such an important place for children to explore and investigate. They learn so much, have fun, co-operate with each other – and, of course, get lots of fresh air and exercise! Our shelter, willow arches, tunnel, climbing dens and sandpit continue to be very popular and our forest area and mud kitchen give the children lots of opportunities for imaginative play. Inside Nursery, the Small World, Construction, Home and Role Play Areas continue to be as popular as ever. So far in our Role Play Areas we have had a Toy Shop, Hospital, Supermarket, Superhero Call Centre, Café, Train Station and Pirate Ship!
We are real party animals in Nursery and this year we’ve had a Café Party, an Easter Parade Party, a Pirate Party, a Popcorn Party and a Teddy Bears’ Picnic. We also love to celebrate each other’s birthdays – and are very good at counting to 4 now!
Throughout the year, we’ve made lots of delicious things in cooking, played musical instruments and had a special singing lesson once a week. We are always physically active with P.E., bikes, playing on the MUGA and field, and having a weekly gymnastics lesson. We have a carousel of 4 different Skill Builder activities at the start of our day and this gives us lots of opportunities to experience new things and practise our skills. We count all the time and love reading books and listening to stories.
We’ve written and drawn with paint and chalk, charcoal, pens and pencils. We’ve enjoyed exploring different materials and done lots of sorting, cutting, planting, threading and making. We have used digital cameras, B Bots and iPads – and are very techno savvy!
I think you’ll agree it’s been a very busy year! Best of all, we’ve made lots of friends, become more independent, had fun and been happy at school.
We’re ready for Reception now!
